Won't You Let Me Take You On A Sea Cruise?!

I am getting excited and nervous all at the same time.  Truth be told...I've been nervous since before I was asked to teach!

Have you ever been on a cruise?  Would you love to go on a QUILTING cruise?!

Sounds like a ton of fun, huh?  So, why the nerves?  I CAN'T SWIM!!  I mean, come on, haven't you ever seen Titanic?!  So, you see, a QUILTING cruise is the only way you would ever get this girl on a boat in the middle of the ocean!

Carla Hoff of Cactus Quilts is hosting a Quilting Cruise in February and I will be teaching a quilt pattern that I have designed just for the cruise!  Just like all Turning Twenty® patterns, it will be fast, easy and FUN!  Those who go on the cruise will be the first to make it!  EXCITING!!

So, here are the details:

7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise aboard the Carnival Magic from Feb 9-16, 2014.  Galveston to Key West, then on to Freeport and Nassau in the Bahamas with three full Quilting days at sea!  Price starts at $952 and if you bring any guests who will not be quilting, their price is reduced.  Bringing the whole family?  The third and fourth person is even less!

What is included in this price: cruise, all meals, cabin, evening shows, room service, casino, quilting classes, workshops, quilting activities and fun events, two formal dinners, swimming pools, fitness center, ports of call.  Pretty all inclusive.

Other than quilting and the Bahamas, what else can you do on the ship?  Here's what I'm told: pools, hot tubs, 2 story spa (OH!  I am there already!!), a water slide from Deck 14 to Deck 9 (hmmm....don't think so!), a rope course (again...don't think so!  I somehow think Gary will be up there though!), gym, jogging track, mini-golf (game anyone?), shuffle board, an outside theater (FUN!  Probably not showing Titanic though), shops, lounges, casino, games and contests, Broadway style show in the evenings (can't wait!), Karaoke (maybe I can get Gary to let his inner "Beach Boy" out!), Disco (why yes, we do this every night at home!), all kinds of bands and music.  And QUILTING!! Something for everyone.

My daughter and son-in-love have been on several and have assured me that this will be the best vacation I have ever had.  I think, even with my nerves, that they are right IF all of my quilting friends are there too.  So, if you want to come along with me, call Carla now and grab a room while you still can.  My packing tip: a screwdriver.  I'll be sure to loosen the hinges on the door...you never know when you just might need one to float on!  <nervous grin!>

Here is Carla's information:

Will I see you there?

The birth of a new Turning Twenty® with Lone Star Quiltworks!

We've got a HUGE surprise on the horizon!

Today I am sharing glimpses of the four days we spent at Lone Star Quiltworks in Bryan, TX.  Watch this blog and be sure to "Like" us on Facebook (Facebook/TurningTwenty) as we reveal more of the mystery.

Yes!  There's a new Turning Twenty® book coming soon.  Totally different than anything Turning Twenty® has ever presented before!!

We had a full house for the Lecture and Trunk Show and sold out three back-to-back workshops!  The women who participated in the workshops were part of a very special photo shoot and were the first to make the new pattern.  They will be featured in the new book that will release in September.

Since this is just the first "tease" of what is coming and why you want to keep checking back for new sneak peeks...you'll notice all I can share are head shots of these wonderful ladies.  Can't show you their beautiful work just yet, but it is coming very soon!  They were all stunning, show-stopping quilts and I can't wait to share them with you!

Terry and the staff at Lone Star Quiltworks were just wonderful.  Everyone was very gracious during the three intense days of workshops.  Gary and I are so thankful to you all.

Don't forget - send pictures of your completed quilts to me at info@TurningTwenty.com and I will share them here on the blog, on the Show and Tell page of our website and on our facebook page (Turning Twenty...be sure to go "Like" us!) just as soon as the book is released.

Here you go...the very first glimpses of the ladies of Lone Star Quiltworks!

Check back often...more coming very soon!

Fun in Houston

I had a great time with the ladies (and one gentleman) at West Houston Quilt Guild!

So many sweet folks, lots of talent in Houston!

Making Turning Twenty® Hope Chest Treasures quilt with this group was a hoot!

A chatty group that made me feel right at home.

Beautiful fabrics, yummy lunch, machines humming and lots of new friends...I am blessed to have such a fulfilling job.

To top it all off, at least one of my new friends is going on the quilt cruise with us in February!

Thank you to everyone at West Houston Quilt Guild for a great lecture and workshop.  Gary and I had a blast!

Nana Bear's Notions - Book Signing

I was so very blessed to be invited by Hope Heaton of Nana Bear's Notions in Snyder, TX to a book signing!  What a wonderful day we had!

Hope and her employees are just the sweetest people.  Gary and I loved meeting so many "Snyderites" and Nana Bear's quilt shop is perfectly perfect!  We left behind some of our most popular quilts for her to display until mid-June and she gets new fabric in almost daily.  You've got to go check her out!  She's located at 2513 College Ave in Snyder.  You can also find her on Facebook, just search Nana Bear's Notions.

I have a terribly embarrassing story to share with you!  You will never believe what I did!!  As we were getting ready to leave, Hope took us into the kitchen area where she had these HUGE fantastic cupcakes special for us...looked so mouthwatering!!  (By the way, Hope, where did you get those?!)  I picked this amazing Key Lime cupcake with mile high frosting.  I was in Heaven!  Could not wait to eat it.  Gary picked an equally impressive Cookies and Cream cupcake.  I leaned over to give her a Thank You hug and SPLAT!  My beautiful cupcake landed FROSTING side down on her CARPET!  And it splatted hard!!  Where is a rock when you need one to climb under?  I was mortified!  I immediately dropped to my knees to clean up my mess.  Hope was sweetly telling me it was ok as I was using paper towels to try and scoop up the green glob and clean her carpet.  As I stood up, red-faced, she gave me another Key Lime cupcake!  Such a sweet lady.  Of course, I ate that one as quickly as I could before disaster could strike again!  YUM!!  As good as it looked!

Thank you Hope and Nana Bear's Notions for a fun day and for the cupcake!  We had a wonderful time!  Oh...and I'm sorry about the carpet :)

Suddenly Sewing Lecture and Workshop

In April we met the wonderful quilters from Suddenly Sewing!!  Owners Michael and Abigail Kralicek were so gracious and Jean was a ball of energy and so much fun...and really good at keeping everyone on track!

The first day, we held two lectures.  We had a huge trunk show featuring quilts from every Turning Twenty book, our Turning Ten book and most of our other books and patterns.  I can never catch pictures of the trunk show because my usual "Photographers", Gary and Michelle, are also my usual "Quilt Holder Uppers"!

I do have pictures of the second day though.  We had such a good time at the workshop!  We had a room full of amazing quilters from beginners to advanced all learning a brand new technique to the Turning Twenty Again pattern.  I can't wait to see their finished quilts.  I'll be sure to post pictures of them as they come in.

In the mean time, here are pictures of the wonderful event we had with Suddenly Sewing.  If you live in the Ft Worth area and have not been to their shop, be sure to stop in and say Hi.  www.SuddenlySewing.com

Learning a quick and easy way to cut fabric for a Turning Twenty quilt

Everyone busy cutting and pressing
Fabric is all cut and sewing begins
Gary and Michelle pressed the fabric so we could keep sewing.
Here is Gary showing off a chain, chain, chain....chain of squares!

Laying them out to get the arrangement "just right".
The colors are just never as accurate or vibrant as they are in person.
This was a gorgeous violet and cream quilt.

Love the colors!  Owner, Michael, picked these colors out for her quilt.
It turned out beautiful!

Mardi Gras!!
Another fun choice of color!

Hard to tell in the picture, but this quilt is full of funky little bugs!
Someone very special is going to enjoy this one!
Jean and me at the end of the day.
What fun!!

Thank you Suddenly Sewing!

Dallas Quilt Celebration

We are busy, busy, busy at FriendFolks!!!  Got a special surprise that has just gone to the printer, expecting it in the warehouse any day now - be watching for a post on that soon!  Today, we are working on another surprise coming right on the heels of this one.  So excited about a lecture and workshop with Suddenly Sewing in Ft Worth, Texas next week and lots of new fabric in for kits and projects!  It's a whirlwind around here!!

In the midst of all this, we had a wonderful time at the Dallas Quilt Celebration just a few weeks ago and I thought I would take a moment to catch my breath and share some of the pictures with you.

Here are some shots of set up.  It's always such an overwhelming feeling to see the bare booth when you first walk in...but, thrilling to watch everything come together.

Here's our sweet Hailey (who worked her first show this time...and loved every minute of it!) - since she has the "youngest" body, she volunteered to crawl into the truck and hand us boxes and crates!  My knees were SO thankful!

We took some time before this show to really organize everything, so things went much more smoothly and a whole lot quicker!!  Here is the finished booth...all ready to go!

They say "if you build it, they will come" and it proved true in Dallas!  We were busy within 30 minutes of the doors opening and stayed busy the entire weekend!!  Hailey was able to get a couple of pictures of the booth after the show started, but this was all we got - couldn't get out of the booth after this!  That's a great problem to have!

A big thank you to everyone who came out to see us in Dallas.  We loved seeing so many of our friends and making new ones!  We look forward to seeing you in Dallas in 2014!

Pioneer Area Quilt Guild Workshop

We traveled to Ponca City, Oklahoma last month for a lecture and workshop with the very talented ladies of the Pioneer Area Quilt Guild.

The church where they meet is amazing, lots of good lighting, and open space to spread out for our workshop.  Upon arrival, we were greeted by Cheryl Ramsey, who promptly pointed out the elevator - I saw a big smile on Gary's face when he realized he wasn't going to have to tote all my quilts up the stairs.  It doesn't take a lot to make him happy.  :)

What a fun, active and TALENTED group of ladies!  Their Show and Tell blew me away!  Carol O'Rear sent these photos of some of the table runners from our workshop.  Thanks Carol!

I can't say enough about what sweet hostesses these Oklahoma girls are.  Thanks ladies, hope we can do it again sometime!

International Quilt Market/Festival 2012

Whew!!  What a whirlwind last month was.  I can't believe it's over!!  We have just returned from 11 days in Houston.  What a great time we had at the 2012 International Quilt Market and Festival!!

Gary, Michelle and I arrived on Thursday to set up the booth for Quilt Market.  A completely blank canvas to work with...exciting and daunting at the same time.

Before we could begin to set up, we had School House.  I was very excited to introduce my newest patterns!  Making their debut at this year's Market and Festival were: Turning Twenty Hope Chest Treasures; my new book series Turning Ten; Jolly Jingle Olde Kris Kringle (redwork) and my newest Machine Embroidery Disk, Sew Snow!  I'm so thankful for everyone showing up...we had standing room only!  You're enthusiasm and excitement is what keeps us going and we appreciate you all so very much!

With School House behind us, we began transforming that empty booth into our display.  We lost count of the number of times we moved those tables around to get it to look just right!  We finally had an arrangement that worked for us and 8 hours later we were ready to go!

Oh wait!  I'm jumping ahead of myself!!  Before we left on Friday, we had Sample Spree!!  We quickly ran upstairs to set up our display.  Got it finished just in the nick of time - they opened the doors at 8 PM and the stampede began!!  What a whirlwind those two hours were!  Such fun!

Market was a thrilling three days!  It was great to see old friends and make new ones as well.  Two of our new friends quickly found the way into our hearts...chocolate!!!  The Quilt Show Navigator had the booth across from us and they made sure we never lost our energy.  They had bags and bags of chocolate under the table.  The good stuff too!!  Kit Kats, Snickers, Milky ways, M&Ms, Butterfingers...Thanks QSN!!  By the way, in case you're not familiar with Quilt Shop Navigator, be sure to check them out online at www.myQSN.com.  They bring quilters and quilt shops/events together.  You can quickly locate and route yourself to any quilt shop or event in the nation!

I also quickly discovered the ONLY place to take a break and rest my aching feet.  Can you tell where I am at?!  The lines were long, but oh, so worth it, just to sit for a couple of minutes!  :)

Saturday night also held a party for us!  The Moda Party!  It was a boot-scootin' themed barbeque complete with a mechanical bull!  I tried so hard to get Gary to go for a spin, but I think his feet hurt too bad to make the walk (at least that's what he tried to tell us.  Evidently, he didn't know about my secret resting place!)  So, we had fun watching everyone else get thrown from the bull and listening to "Reba" on stage!  Thanks for a great time Moda!

Before market, I was contacted by Lecien USA, Inc.  They asked me to design a pattern for them using their newest line of fabric that will be introduced in February.  Once I saw the fabric, I knew two things: first, this pattern had to be a sweet little girl and second, I had to make a Turning Twenty quilt with it!!  The display they had at market was adorable!

Market was wonderful, but no rest for the weary, Festival is just one day away!!  Michelle took a quick trip back home for our great-granddaughter's first birthday and Gary and I set about restocking and rearranging the booth.

With Michelle back with us in Houston, we were ready to go.  Preview Night...and Halloween started!  Goblins, pirates, and all sorts of special guests came out.  Here are two that stopped by FriendFolks to say hi!

Two special friends stopped in to say hello and we had some Show and Tell!!  I love to see pictures of your completed quilts and, though they didn't have pictures with them, I wanted to get a picture of them to share.  Our first lady had just completed Jingle Jangle Jungle!

The second lady had just completed Sunday School Singers.  She had hand stitched AND hand quilted the entire quilt!!  What an heirloom to pass on!

This year at Market and Festival, we celebrated ten years of Turning Twenty.  I can't believe it has been 10 years already!!  We are so blessed and I was very excited to be able to share this milestone with everyone.  Market is where it all started and what an honor to come back this year with our 10th book in the Turning Twenty series...and a new book series, Turning Ten, to celebrate!!  Thank you to each and every one of you for supporting us and for coming out to help us celebrate!  We wouldn't be in business if it weren't for you!

Alas, all good things must come to an end.  We had a fantastic time, but my feet were telling me it was time to tear down.  Our crazy son-in-love, Stephen, surprised us all by coming down to help us tear down and load up.

Everything is packed up.  Stephen and Gary are taking things out to the truck.  I am loading boxes and Michelle is folding up the Squid Britches.  What are Squid Britches?!  Many years ago, I stitched up these long tubes of fabric to cover the poles of our booth.  They are several feet long and Scott said they looked just like pants for squid!  Ta Da!!  Squid Britches!  Leave it to Scott to come up with something like that!  Here's a shot of Michelle folding our Squid Britches...

It's truly amazing what goes into these 11 days!  The building doesn't even look the same.  Here is how we left it.  An empty canvas for the next show coming in.  I hope they remember their Squid Britches!!  Maybe I should have left a note letting them know of my secret "resting" place as well.  If it's anything like Market and Festival, they are going to need it!

Until Market/Festival 2013...

Blessings,
